This is Robot Restaurant, a 10 billion yen creation in the Kabukicho section of Tokyo’s Shinjuku neighborhood. Kabukicho is the city’s red light district, where the narrow, car-less streets are flanked by a seemingly endless number of towering, multi-colored, brightly backlit signs. It’s famous for its nightclubs, host and hostess clubs, short-stay hotels, and late-night eateries, but Robot Restaurant is a step beyond the usual fare.

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg think the film industry is heading towards a cliff. The pair behind some of the most successful franchises in movie history think that conservative programming choices and rapidly evolving distribution schemes have set the stage for a massive upheaval — and internet-based services may become the dominant medium when moviegoing as we know it crashes and burns.

Nielsen reported this spring that there are now over 5 million cord cutters in the U.S., up from 3 million in 2007. In these “zero tv” households, almost half were under the age of 35.

It’s important to note that “zero TV” doesn’t mean these homes don’t have televisions — most do. It simply means they’re not paying for cable. 
The graph above clearly illustrates what might be considered a “trend”. Or, to put it another way, winter is coming.
